You sat at a table with Your friends You did eat It would be Your last meal; you had an appointment to keep You gave Your love, washed their feet and encouraged them too They
were all so happy to be sitting at the table with You Their joy turned to sorrow as You said the end was near They didn't want to believe You; they wanted You to stay here You broke the Bread and blessed it and gave to them to eat Saying this is My Body that is given for you, all eyes did meet You poured the wine and gave to them to drink too. Saying this is My Blood for the forgiveness of you. Then together with them the Bread and Wine you partook Then You told them it was time to go, for You others did look. What was it like Jesus to sit with all Your friends Knowing it would be the last time before Your life would end? I wonder if at that table that night did Your disciples cry Did they really believe You were on Your way to die? They declared their love saying You they would never deny But their love was tested and when Peter failed he did cry.
You told them Lord it was better for them if You did not stay. Did they understand; were their hearts broken in two? As the meal came to an end and the enemy came to take You. Some day Lord You will come again for Your Bride and we will meet And at Your banqueting table all who believe will have a great feast For on this night You gave your Body and Blood for all who would believe That through You there is forgiveness of sins if Your love they will receive
In the Garden by Pat Couchman Lord you went to the garden to call on Our Father and to pray You knew it was near the end and on this earth you could not stay You took Peter with you along with the two sons of Zebedee And asked them to watch and pray as Your Father you did seek. You went and cried out with great distress, blood dripping from your face And when you returned You found all three asleep in their place It was a place where Your friends were needed and yet they fell asleep Your heart was broken for You were alone crying out on Your knees You cried out to Him and asked if this cup could pass from you Then you said Father nevertheless, Your will I am willing to do. Three times You went and cried out to see if there was another way But no answer came from Our Heavenly Father on that very lonely day You came back and your friends you did find asleep once again And woke them from their slumber as the hour was at hand I wonder if they knew this would be their last hours with You For their spirit was willing but in their flesh nothing could they do. In Your final hour you were left to face this task alone Your friends did not know that soon they would mourn Just one hour is all you asked them to stay with You and pray They just did not understand that soon You would be taken away. Lord if it had been us would we have acted in a different way Or would our flesh be just as weak as theirs was that day Lord Jesus strengthen and fill us and help us to always pray For we too do not know when we will not have another day.
The Betrayal by Pat Couchman Thirty pieces of silver is what they paid for Your life Such a small amount for You, the One willing to die You called your betrayer, Judas, Your friend You loved him right through to the very end He came with those to kill you and kissed You as a sign In Your perfect love You kissed Him, such a love divine He handed You over to those who would nail You to the cross He tried to give the silver back when he was filled with remorse An innocent life, Your blood was on his hands Then he hung himself for the guilt he could not stand My Lord Jesus he was Your friend, Your follower too Yet it had been written to You this very thing he would do. Yet you walked with him every day knowing he would betray you I wonder if we tried if we could love like you do Lord Jesus Your love far outweighs the love that is in me For when I have been betrayed I could only see my enemy I took all the hurt not giving of Your perfect love Forgive us Lord send us Your love from above Change my heart Lord to love like You do That my heart may be pleasing to You and I would love too. We thank You Lord for the perfection of Your love And we give praise to Our King Jesus in heaven above.
The
Walk to the Cross by Pat Couchman
They came to the garden with an army and took you away Your closest friends began to scatter from fear that day They bound you as they brought you before the high priest And as you answered his questions your back did they beat They led You from the high priest to Pontius Pilate to see He cried out to the Jews “why have you bought Him to me” This man is innocent and has done nothing that is worthy of death Is what he told Your accusers who sought to take Your last breath Pilate spoke to You and asked “are You the King of the Jews”? He did not know The Holy One that He was speaking too. “My kingdom is not from here” is how you answered that day Saying everyone who is of the truth would hear Your voice and stay Pilate cried out to the Jews saying one man I shall release to you They cried out for the thief to be free, oh Lord if they only knew Soon after a crown of thorns was placed upon Your precious head As they mocked and scorned You, Pilate washed his hands of your death Crucify, Crucify is what the crowd yelled to Pilate that very dark day They dressed you in purple as they began to lead You on the Your way A man was told to help you carry the heavy cross up Calvary’s hill The crowd gathered and watched as the Lamb they prepared to kill. They hammered the nails into Your wrists and Your feet too You were silent and said nothing for this is what you came to do You took the place of many as You shed Your blood that day That the sins of the world might be washed and taken away You cried out in the end, “It is Finished” these last words you did speak But no one understood in that moment was the enemy’s defeat Your family and friends stood by and wept as You died that day Their hearts discouraged not remembering all You had spoken along the way As You took Your last breath all around them the earth began to shake The veil of the temple was rent in two and their hearts within them quaked For now they knew the Son of God they did kill on Calvary’s hill that day Their shame they could not hide as they watched them carry your body away They buried You in a rich man’s tomb everyone thought it was the end The stone was rolled across the entrance to Your grave, the guards they did send For fear of all You had said would be true this very day and many would follow you And to this very day the hearts of many are blinded by this lie, not able to see You.
Your friends and family left very sad not knowing what they would do Their Savior and their friend had died and their hearts mourned for You No one had understood that all that had been prophesied was about to take place For though you had died, You would rise again and they would see Your face. Jesus did they not listen to all the words You had spoken to them every day That the Son of Man must die for our sins so they could be washed away Your body was beaten Your blood was shed, for forgiveness and healing too For each person of the world You died that we may forever live with You.
The Crucifixion By Pat Couchman
They hammered
the nails into Your wrists and Your feet too
You cried out
in the end, "It is Finished" these last words you did speak Their hearts discouraged not remembering all the Words You had spoken along the way
As You took
Your last breath all around them the earth began to shake For now they knew the Son of God they did kill on Calvary's hill that day Their shame they could not hide as they watched them carry your body away
They buried
You in a rich man's tomb everyone thought it was the end
Your friends
and family left very sad not knowing what they would do
Jesus did they not listen to all the words You had spoken to them every day That the Son
of Man must die for our sins in order that they be washed away For each person of the world You died that we may forever live with You.
The Resurrection by Pat Couchman
They came early that morning to the tomb where He had been placed They came to bring ointments for his body, as was the custom those days They wept when they arrived for His body they could not find They were afraid and terrible thoughts starting plaguing their minds Then they heard a voice speaking to them this wonderful day Saying the One that You seek is not here but has risen today They looked in amazement as they saw the stone had been rolled away They listened closely to the angel who spoke as they were told to go their way They ran to the others to tell them Jesus was risen from the dead The disciples didn't believe then and ran to the tomb instead When they arrived they saw the only the linens folded where He once lay They too were amazed at what they saw and heard that day. They gathered together speaking about the miracle they had seen Not all believed He had risen it was His scars they wanted to see Jesus arrived and stood in the midst as they all stood in awe Then Thomas believed when the nail prints He saw He had walked with them for over three years before this day He had told them He would rise again but their faith did not stay When they saw Him nailed to the cross and life taken from Him They believed it was over and they would never see Him again. Now they stood in the room and His face they did see Joy flooded their hearts, as they finally all believed He had come to save their souls and to die was His command In obedience He went to the cross and stretched out His hands Now they stood with Jesus risen and given authority And he stood with them and promised them eternity Go and spread the Good News tell people of Me That they too might live and spend their lives in eternity I go to My Father now but the comforter will come He will fill you with power from heaven above They knew now that all He had said was true And that through Him there was nothing they could not do.
